The UK identity card. Without it you're no-one.

All quiet on the Silly Government front

There's not been much activity over here recently but the campaign continues; NO2ID is the place to keep up to date. They're doing fine work. We have plans to get involved again ourselves sooner rather than later, as a first pass you can now find Modern Labour Minister at YouTube, as demonstrated by this bit of silliness over here... www.myidmylife.org

Sign the petition to scrap the proposed introduction of ID cards

There is a petition to scrap ID cards at the official PM site.

Are they still not listening?

Time for some more song and dance then. Go and watch The Swizz of the Cards (1.2MB Flash animation), it features numerous politicians and a very, very cute dog. Oh, and the Good Witch of the Kazoo looking remarkably like a mouse in a pink tutu and sparkly crown. Fabulous warbling courtesy of DogHorse.

ID cards and the National Database bill passes second reading

The Labour majority was cut from 67 to 31 which is a good sign at least. You can find out how your MP voted over at The Public Whip. You can read the debate over at www.theyworkforyou.com (there are a few gems).

I was thrilled that my MP failed to rebel against this flawed and wasteful bill, particularly considering his initial email to me where he stated "I personally would be happy to carry a social security card, but they must not be made compulsory if they ever develop a card that covers all the uses I could see for its use. I really do not hear of any serious move down this road at UK level." It was reassuring at the time, shame it was all rubbish. He hasn't bothered to reply to my recent email either, even after I sent him a link to my lovely animation. Heh, oh well, back to the drawing board... or the Flash file anyhow.

So, what to do when your government doesn't listen to you?

Sing a song and make some animals dance! I acknowledge that it might not be the obvious solution, but for the moment it's mine. Strictly speaking I only did the latter, as the talented DogHorse provided the music (something you should all be very happy about). Watch our tribute to Charles Clarke, ID cards, the national database, dapper dogs and pianist puppies (900KB Flash animation). If you like it you could always send the link to your MP, along with your thoughts on the the ID card bill.
